Steady-state indirect bilirubin level in sickle cell anemia: A comparative hospital-based cross-sectional study

چکیده
Background: The major forms of sickle cell disease are characterized by hemolysis. extent this hemolysis may itself depend on the form even in steady-state. This study aims to compare indirect bilirubin level between homozygous and beta plus anemia (SAFA2) steady-state conditions. Material methods: Fifty subjects each forms, were enrolled a comparative hospital-based cross-sectional from April 2008 May at laboratory university hospital Yopougon, Ivory Coast. Subjects awaiting their visits selected database patients regularly followed clinical hematology department Yopougon University Hospital. During visits, socio-demographic data collected, blood sample was also taken carry out biological examinations. Blood count testing performed using Sysmex Kx-21™ BioMérieux KONELAB-20™, respectively. Data analysis software Statistical Product Service Solutions version 12.0. Shapiro test used verify normality Student t-test for comparison parametric means or Mann-Whitney’s independent none-parametric data. Pearson Chi square tests Yate’s correction continuity where first not appropriate. threshold statistical significance set p ≤ 0.05. Results: median Hb higher SAFA2 compared SSFA2 10.7 g/dL [IQR = 8] vs 7.3 7]; < 0.001. In contrast, lower 5.6 μmol/L 10] 15.1 13], ratio these two medians shows that 2.7 times less than Out one hundred subjects, hyperbilirubinemia defined as > 14 men women 79.2% 20.8%, 0.01 whereas age groups associated hyperbilirubinemia, 0.4. Conclusion: Our suggest is marked chronic must be into account when it comes give comprehensive care subjects.

Prevalence of hypoxemia among children with sickle cell anemia during steady state and crises: a cross-sectional study.
BACKGROUND Patients with sickle cell anemia (SCA) are prone to recurrent pain crises related to red blood cell sickling and vaso-occlusion with subsequent tissue hypoxia. Alveolar hypoxia has been shown to be associated with entrapment of sickle cells in the pulmonary microcirculation which may propagate a cycle of further hypoxemia and sickling. Pulmonary complications are common in sickle cel...
متن کاملAsymptomatic bacteriuria in sickle cell disease: a cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND It is known that there is significant morbidity associated with urinary tract infection and with renal dysfunction in sickle cell disease (SCD). However, it is not known if there are potential adverse outcomes associated with asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) infections in sickle cell disease if left untreated. This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of ASB, in a cohort of...
متن کاملSteady state hemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume in homozygous sickle cell disease patients in Lagos, Nigeria
Background: Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder of hemoglobin causing myriad of pathology including anemia. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the baseline values of steady state hemoglobin and packed cell volume as a guide to managing the early recognition of hemolytic crises in sickle cell anemia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the sickle cell patients atte...
متن کاملA Genome-Wide Association Study of Total Bilirubin and Cholelithiasis Risk in Sickle Cell Anemia
Serum bilirubin levels have been associated with polymorphisms in the UGT1A1 promoter in normal populations and in patients with hemolytic anemias, including sickle cell anemia. When hemolysis occurs circulating heme increases, leading to elevated bilirubin levels and an increased incidence of cholelithiasis. We performed the first genome-wide association study (GWAS) of bilirubin levels and ch...
